Where did pralines first appear in the U.S. & how do you pronounce it?

I thought I would talk about another yummy treat that has a strong NOLA history or at least I thought it did. During my five year residency in Louisiana, I learned that pralines were created in New Orleans, but after starting my information gathering for this post, I learned that some believe that pralines started in Texas and other Savannah.
